2012 UC ADVANCE Roundtable at UCI

Building Capacity for Institutional Transformation in the 21st Century: Women of Color in STEM and SBS Fields

This one-day Roundtable convened UC faculty and academic administrators who play key roles in recruitment and retention of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and SBS (social and behavioral sciences) faculty. The keynote speaker, Dr. Cecilia Conrad (distinguished labor economist and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Pomona College), presented research on the participation of women of color in STEM and SBS fields over time in the U.S. In addition, UC faculty and administrators presented research and practice in building a stronger UC faculty, including the following panels:

      “The Double Bind in Engineering and Computer Science”
      “Advancing Diversity in the Social and Behavioral Sciences”
      “Building a Diverse Future for the Biological Sciences”
      “Remaking the Climate for Graduate Education”
