  1. Can the funds be used to provide support for a graduate student?
  2. It costs more than $5000 to get teaching release. What can I do?
  3. Do the proposal and budget have to be sent together with the letter of support?

Q. Can the funds be used to provide support for a student?
A. No. As the funds are meant to support faculty research and related activities that will advance diversity, equity, and inclusion, they cannot be used to support students (graduate or undergraduate).

Q. It costs more than $5000 to get teaching release. What can I do?
A. Due to the way the awards are structured, we are only able to offer the capped amount of $5000. After determining the exact cost of teaching release, discuss possible ways to fund the difference with your department chair or school dean.

Q. Do the proposal and budget have to be sent together with the letter of support?
A. No. The proposal and budget can come directly from the applicant—and the letter of support can be sent by the dean or chair under separate cover to Samantha Anderson-Mekhail at sanders2@uci.edu. It is also acceptable if the letter of support is appended to the proposal and budget.
